What causes it?
Back pain may be the result of injury, or disease such as arthritis, spinal stenosis, or fibromyalgia. Degeneration, herniation, or rupture of the discs between vertebrae, and poor spinal alignment can trigger back pain, too.

GARLIC OIL used for massage. To utilize it most effectively: Put ten small pieces of garlic in a pan, add coconut, sesame or mustard oil, and fry the garlic pieces over a low flame until brown. Let cool, then strain, and massage the oil mixture onto the back, leaving it for three or four hours before rinsing.
HERBAL TEAS such as chamomile, St. John's wort, borage, lemon balm, and valerian are known to have a calming effect on strained muscles as well. Drink one to two cups of tea containing any of these herbs on a daily basis for maximum results.
HEATING PADS AND ICE PACKS, applied alternately to the back, can relieve painful spasms. Begin with a cold treatment (careful not to apply ice directly to the skin) for as long as the spasm persists. Then, apply a heating pad for no more than twenty minutes at a time to loosen tight muscles.
